Vice President Joe Biden ignites Labor in Ohio

All across the nation, labor day rallies sparked a renewed commitment in the fight for a fair economy.  In Ohio, at the AFL-CIO Labor Day picnic in Cincinnati, Vice President Joe Biden spoke to a crowd of over 5,000.

In an impassioned speech at Coney Island Park on Monday, Vice President Joe Biden urged the audience to stop a Republican anti-union “onslaught.” and to “fight for the heart and soul of the labor movement.”

“Repeal this law your governor [Kasich] passed. The battles of labor won over the years not only raised the standards of labor, but for everyone,” continued Biden in a direct reference to Senate Bill 5, which voters will decide on in November.

Vice President Biden speech wasn’t just empty rhetoric but was a call to action for all workers in Ohio. He wasn’t alone in the call to action, U.S. Sen. Sharrod Brown, who is up for re-election next year, introduced the Vice-President.

“We win on Issue 2, we carry the ‘no’ side on Issue 2, it reverberates across this entire country,” Brown said to the cheering crowd.

In a statement released to the press, Sen. Brown wrote, “Labor Day honors the workers who build our country on the middle class.  Workers laid down roadways and railways to move people and products around the country.  Women and men on shopfloors, docks, and in the mines worked to support their families and communities.  Their drive build a great nation.”

Labor did build this great nation.  The nation is built on the shoulders of great American labor workers and we cannot afford to stand idly while Issue 2 is on the November ballot.  Issue 2, will make Ohio suffer in an already unstable economy.  It’s time that all Ohioans stood and said NO on issue 2.  Get involved in the campaign today by clicking here.
